In the early1500s Spanish explorer, Cordoba, end his exploring dudes, hit this little island and when they saw statues representing half naked women, they promptly called it Isla Mujeres, or Island of women. It is believed that these Mayan statues have to do with fertility goddess and Ixchel, the moon.

After a moving interaction with the Dolphins (will post later) we buzzed around this little island in golf carts to see the interesting and colorful architecture, including the "conch House". An architect and his artist brother came up with the idea, probably inspired by a bit of agave juice, and so the house was born. Since we didn't bring offerings of agave or peyote, we weren't invited inside .While nearly all houses here are quite small, there are a few which are larger and more opulent.
